6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

I have 5 slow pokes still in the incubator, taking their sweet time! So we might set a bit later in the day. Maybe I will find more fresh eggs in the barn to add :).

I found 2 of the RIR eggs are cracked. I put a cost of fingernail polish over just that area. I wonder if that ever works

should I leave my bator going n place the eggs prewarmed up tomorrow or turn the bator off let it cool n place room temp eggs into cooled bator?

also have fairly four fairly dirty eggs leave it or use damp cloth to wipe off lightly?

and only cuz it's making me batty(over so many differing temp ranges n humidity ranges) just confirm humidty 30ish until 18 day then 50/60's? check air cell size? temp 99.5 to 11 wilh a puter fan moving the air inside the bator?
Prewarmed and running. Do not adjust for 24 hours(unless it spikes in temp).

Gently wipe off dirt. You can wash them too but follow the cleaning instructions we discussed here recently.

Leave the bator warmed up; just make sure you bring the eggs up to room temp before setting. 30% will be fine thru day 18, just keep it above 25 for sure. Lockdown around 60-70%. 99.5 is good for forced air. Cleaning the eggs is up to you; seems like there are pros/cons either way. I don't just because I'm clutzy and try not to handle them more than necessary; I just brush anything big off and set them. Good luck!

Pregnant Chicken Farmer to her husband from bedroom: "Honey! The baby just pipped!!! What do I do?"
Husband Chicken Farmer in response: "Hold on! I'll check BYC!!!"

You guys are so tempting with all the eggs your setting. I know I shouldn't hatch but I have that itch reading this thread lol. I have a few Silkie eggs and I so want to take all my Cream Legbar eggs out of the refrigerator and set those too lol. Agh I shouldn't hatch in winter. I told my kids and they said whats the problem just set the eggs. They were a real big help.

No help here!

You have a lovely flock! I love the black/white/silver solids and patterns mixed with red!

Big Daddy Crow is a beauty! Any SOA fans out there with a roo named SAMCRO? Just curious.

I just thought of it and think it's a good call for a futurre boy. Don't tell me anything if you watched it I haven't even started season 7 yet.

Love it! I think you just named my next roo. ( I just finished Season 6 so I'm right there with ya)

Still waiting on the call from the PO about my eggs. The shipper had good reviews so am hoping she packed well and she said that she gathered them on Monday so I have that working in my favor. We have this really hard rainfall and to get to me you have to go over winding roads

that they are being handled gently and are well packed.

I really hope they arrive safe.

Shipping tracking shows my eggs have left Texas and Ohio but not that they've hit the ABQ Post Office, so it looks like I'll have a split setting of eggs with my farmers market mutts going in the incubator today and the late arrivals -- what with settling -- going in on Saturday.

Serendipitiously, I got an early Christmas present of a new incubator!

Thank you, Santa (and DH), for making it easier to manage these glitches!
Congrats on the new bator! What a great husband.

I believe as everyone sets eggs they are supposed to PM Ron to give him the number set. Also I think for those that received shipped eggs, in the same num of eggs set PM to Ron also add in your location and the location of where the eggs were shipped from(that is for a different contest).

@ronott1 sounds like you have a lot a work ahead. Your a definite trooper and a great host.

This will be me....But it is worth it!

@chickkrakidd

Here are some pics of our flock. Notice that the run is overgrown? Well, if you look in the top of the pics you'll see why. The high stalks help the birds to blend in from sky high predators.

The last pic is of our 4 newest babies. They hatced on 11/25/14. Their daddy is our BA aka Big Daddy Crow.
Unfortunately, we didn't keep records of the others' hatch dates.

But the above flock are the parents of the ones I'm hatching now. The cockerels you see in there are not the fathers of any of our chicks because they were recently added to the main flock and as I posted earlier Big Daddy Crow works hard to keep the boys away from even flirting with his ladies. lol
Nice!

I hope the shipping angels come through for you!

I'll play! I set eggs last night. Some are BLRW and the rest are BLRW/EE mix. Assuming my bator doesn't fry them. This morning my thermometer had fallen user the turner and I had no time to correct it. So hopefully it's ok.
