6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

So I don't think my thermometer is reading the right temperature inside the incubator. . I saw somewhere where they have small thermometer sitting on the eggs. . I went to Walmart last night and I got this. .

Do you think this is going to read the temperature any better?
This HAL thing is to stressful! ..I am getting to attach to those eggs. .. lol

I would check the calibration of the thermometer. I try to look at all of them on the shelf and get one reading the same as others also.

My broody hen sitting on her eggs. She prefers to brood on the floor rather than in the nest box.

Here's a better photo of her before she went broody.

Here she is with the last chicks that she hatched. She raised them until they were about 3 months old. As you can see, the black sex link is bigger than her adopted mom here. The frizzle is mom's roommate and assists with raising the chicks. The 3 little buffish girls hatched from mom's eggs. Dad was a buff orp that I don't have any more.

This will work to print out but is there an easier way to convert it to an excel spread sheet? I can make a sheet then plug in the formulas by hand but didn't know if there was another way?

Hey, sorry I missed your post. The Incubation Worksheet is meant to be used with a spreadsheet, however I have not got the entire spreadsheet done yet which is intended to make all areas of chicken management...manageable. LOL

I am using OpenOffice and as far as I know, it can be opened with Excel. I would be interested to find out.

If you'd like the spreadsheet as is, pm me with your email address and I can send it to you. Please do not post email or other personal data in here.

I use a medical thermo to test all my other thermos against so I can be confident in my incubator temps. I got one on amazon for around 5 bucks that is guaranteed accurate within 2/10s of a degree. Well worth it for peace of mind.

STILL AIR INCUBATOR
We are moving eggs around in the still still incubators already? I thought it was every 3 or 4 days. I haven't done that before and I think it has caused problems.
When you move eggs around do you use a pattern so you know you are moving them around good enough? My chicken helper and I were thinking we would move in rows. Left to right then top to bottom.
My eggs get a new spot in my LG every time we turn them.

Actually @ronott1 I stole the oral thermometer idea from you. When you posted it once I felt like slapping myself in the head - a la "I could have had a V8".

They're super accurate and 98.6 is so close to 99.5.

Looks a bit like an oral thermometer--with a wire in it....
