Day 4 today!

There is some chirping! So excited and freaked too as I thought I had till Monday to set up their brooder! LOL This is such a busy weekend!

lol it seems like ppl are never exactly ready to house their chicks or chickens when they need it and it's a scramble to get it done
And what's worse is every time I put eggs in the 'bator, I tell myself to make sure the brooder is ready before they hatch. But do I do it? Noooo, but I always feel somehow better for having thought of doing it at least. lol
P.S. I am going to join a Procrastinator's Anonymous group tomorrow.

The strangest most sickening sweet smelling stink ever enough to gag a maggot... I do not like eggtopcy

Thank you.
The SFH would certainly put some size in them. I call myself a hobbyist and don't sell too many so right now I can't afford the SFH's.
I currently have a half Crevecouer and half Polish in with the five crested hens.

Hum, I hadn't really thought about it, but in my flock right now I have some F2 EE laying green, 2 OE, & 2 CCL.
They are under 3 SFH Roos, of which 1 is crested.

&I also have 2 crested SFH (hen & pullet), & a couple of EE cockerals who have started trying to get w/ the girls.
(I gotta get them out asap so my SFH girls can make pure eggs of course)

But meanwhile, possibly some of my NYD HAL chicks could be colored egg layers w/ crests...interesting.
I will have to take lots of photos when these eggs hatch & we can all try to guess from the chicks.

I did an eggtopsy tonight. Had a quiter..candled..today is a week before lock down. One of those white Ameraucana eggs.

Have to wonder why all of the others are doing well, and one just up and quits. I also have to wonder if could be, that these eggs shells are sooo thin. Had a few cracked that came, so I always open them to check for fertility. Man those shells were the thinnest yet in shipped eggs..doesn't that allow more bacteria in? Just a thought.
Not too many of his have made it this far. But I have eggs in from two different friends that are doing well. Then, the ones that I set on the 11th, and, the ones I set on the 12th ~ shipped.

Trick is to open the bad egg(s) w/ them inside a ziplock if you are really worried about smell.

But unless they already smell un-opened it isn't generally bad smell-wise.
It IS gross visually sometimes, but you'll learn so much more about what is going on & how to improve hatches it is worth ick factor!

So I was going to also set some olive eggs but I thought that hen had stopped laying on me. Only today we found not one, but two nests of sneaky chicken eggs of a few different kinds!
