6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Is that you hennible? Are you pulling our fingers, toes, and nose? Nice looking guy..and..I knew someone would say that. I think we all need a moment or two of getting ready for the day.

I know I do! I've already had those moments, and I was thinking as I left the mirror just this morning, ok, I guess that's as good as it gets today.

I think we all have that "as good as it gets" morning moments.

I can NOT keep up with this thread!! I am 500 posts behind, Here's what we did this weekend, I had to have the gymnast daughter tie the tops.

Your chickies will love you for this. You are lucky to have a great helper up there. Glad I have some help around here too. The older we get, the more worried I am about keeping chickens.

But, in the meantime!

confused your incubator is working fine but dont want to do winter hatch again?

I think some of us are worried about where to put them for the winter. I do have a nursery hutch outside that has a heat lamp and tarp. Did this with some young ones earlier, when we did have some cold weather for a bit..worked out great. Make sure you have that heat lamp really really set tight where ever you put it, and not too close to the ground where the shaving/straw is if you decide to use one. Those things get pretty hot, and warm up a small area pretty good. My DH actually screwed this one to the side of the little coop, it isn't going anywhere. I know the chicks won't be flying up there as young ones and touching it, they will be moved into the larger grow out coop/run as they get older.

A racoon or something got to one of my Polish frizzle pullets last night.

I was out until after 10:30 pm and the coop door was still open. I'm so sad. I hatched her from my first attempt at incubating. She was my sweetie! She would run over so I could pick her up for hugs.

I know that this sort of thing happens when you own chickens, but it was my fault for not closing the door before I left. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a bummer. I'm still super stoked about the hatch. And probably the Easter hatch too.

Oh, :(.. I'm so sorry. Yes, a few of us have lost favorite ones to critters. It's never easy when we are loving our chickens as pets.

I suppose it isn't easy for those that are having them for nutrition too..which I do..just for the eggs though.
