6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Will this be the "After New-Years-Day-Hatch-A-Long Hatch-A-Long? Do we set our eggs on January 2???
lol You can set the eggs anytime in january so long as they hatch on or before 1-31-15 so they just need to be set by the 10th at the latest. It just a January HAL so they can hatch anytime in january, its for people who missed the NYD HAL or are setting more eggs after the NYD date. Like me and my muscovy eggs they wont hatch until like the 17th because they didnt get in the bator early enough.

whew only took all morning to get caught up haha I candled a couple of the eggs while they where in the trays still last night. I don't wanna risk hurting the embryos by picking them up till day 7...but I couldn't wait

I just had to take a peek. The eggs from my RSL ladies are too dark to see into without picking them up but the air cells are looking nice on the couple I tried. The blue/green eggs are much clearer and I could easily see the veins and little embryos...soooo cute

Somehow I'm even more eggcited now!!

What are you using to candle . My blue and green eggs are very hard to see. I usually don't even candle but curious what your using

So i candled my eggs without taking them out of the trays night before last which would have been day 3/4 for me, i see alot of large aircells and no veins yet. i added more humidity to slow down the air cells, the muscovy eggs were shipped so i think those are just devloping their saddles which is why the cell looks so huge. Hunidity has been between 12-35% without adding water, i added water after i candled and humidity has been 25-45% so hopefully that will slow down my aircells but not be to much humidity. i am going to candle again tonight as it will be day 6/7.

I really want to try the flashlight that @bamadude recommended! I think I'll wait up for Santa and hold him hostage until the elves deliver it to me! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I have a great candler..I also have some pretty olive eggs in there that are very hard to see in now. That's usually a good thing. :) Watch the air sac, is it showing up pretty clear? These are some that you just have to smell just before lock down. And then, you still get some that quit early because you couldn't see in them. But, also towards the end, you can at times, see some movement on the bottom around the air sac..just don't toss them, especially if the air sac has gotten bigger..of course! :D

I am amazed!

16 of 24 Trader Joes Fertile eggs are developing--I spent $2.99 a dozen for those eggs! The expiration day on them was 12-31--It should have been a hatch date on the carton!

The Blue Australorp eggs have 8 of 11 with veins and they were shipped!

WOW that is fantastic. I don't think we have a TJ w/in 200 miles but if we did I'd really like to try that.

the first time I tried incubating, I got Olive egger eggs. It was not the best idea for a first time! I could barely see anything. I had one hatch that was literally opaque, and I was never able to see through at all. Now that I'm addicted to hatching, maybe I should invest in a good candler. What is the one you use?
