6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

In case of Zombie apocalypse i would want australorps. They have not even blinked with their egg production this winter. Their only risk factor is they would probably be friendly to zombies too.
I am really excited for your hatch feyraine!

HaHa -- maybe some of the brown eggs from you are Australorp X eggs (is that a possibility?)

In the NYD HAL Bator -- Last night there were 16eggs that I saw movement in, there are 14 more but those were too dark or just didn't happen to be active when I looked.

My vote for most likely to evade Zombies is actually the SFH, they never walk from place to place, they always run in a hip hop zig zag , I think they are practicing ;>

You will love the Wellsummer!!
I got rid of all my Welsummers but one, and now I wish I had kept one of the others for my OE project. She laid the most interesting eggs, they were light but with dark pores. They had kind of a stone look to them. Not exactly the desirable color in a Welsummer egg; I think they are supposed to be darker. She was a hatchery bird, so I don't know if I'll ever find that egg color again. I hollowed one out before I got rid of her. This is what it looked like. If anyone knows a chicken that lays eggs like this I'd like to know. I think it could make a neat OE. Or I can just get a bunch more hatchery Welsummers and hope I get another one.

Since 8 of my pullets and one of the roos are australorps it is a good bet that the lighter brown eggs you got from me are at least 1/2 austalorp. There were welsummers in there too, but they do not get my vote for ZA chicken to survive with. You could even have welsummer/australorp crosses in that group. Now that would be interesting.

Emma and I finished our second candleing and pulled 3 more clears. We are down to 32, with a few questionables, but we do have a bunch that are moving around. We will candle one more time at lock down. Merry Christmas everyone.
