Hmm... I'm trying to remember what the really heat-tolerant chicken I read about a few weeks ago...Brahmas are neat and should be okay in that hot of weather. Egyptian Fayomis would probably be okay. Welsummers lay a nice dark-brown/speckled egg, and are the #1 choice for a Zombie Apocalypse..apparently http://blog.mypetchicken.com/2012/03/09/the-best-chicken-breed-to-choose-for-the-zombie-apocalypse/
If I remember what that super heat-hardy chicken is, I'll get back to you.![]()
My chicks are starting to look so generic. Anyone have any idea what would be a good brand of chicken that will make a good life in 120° heat. Something other than RIR, Auracanas, leghorn, red star and barred rock? Suggestions please.
Yeah! It was the Penedesenca! (don't know how to pronounce that, lol!) Neat chicken!

I am in Mesa, AZ. Where are you?Oh! What part of AZ? I you don't mind me asking? We might be close.![]()
Since 8 of my pullets and one of the roos are australorps it is a good bet that the lighter brown eggs you got from me are at least 1/2 austalorp. There were welsummers in there too, but they do not get my vote for ZA chicken to survive with. You could even have welsummer/australorp crosses in that group. Now that would be interesting.
