6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Biggest hatching dream to date last night.. I had one of those octagon bators on the counter.. Was telling y'all it was just one more day.. Went back and EVERYTHING had hatched. I was in disbelief! Some chicks were huge.. One egg had twins which were tiny, like pencil erasers lol.

Another four on the counter (which I had apparently pulled days ago) were hatching, along with one I had dissolved in vinegar. I kept trying to take pics for y'all but my phone wouldn't work! :lau

Morning everyone. :p

So close!

So close! (I looked at the eggs, Bama, twice) Humidity is a tad high, 78%. But I'd have to take out all the eggs to drain the channels. I should have just used little dishes. Oh well. Note to self for DIY incubator design: make it easy to adjust humidity levels!
i use one of those syringes with the pointy end...like the kind for wound washing has like a long thin pointy tip. It fits right between my turners and my floor grid squares into the water channels to suck the water out if it is too humid....and vice versa if i need more humidity.

ok so I have a question see alot of peeps using to bators one to incubate and another to hatch is this for the split setting hatchs? convenience or some other mysterious hatching thingie?
As far as i know it is for split hatches and it is easier to have a more simple set up that is easy to clean away from the main bator. Like mine i have a Janoel8-48 with auto turners etc....but since i am doing split hatch and i dont want to have to bleach the entire machine...i have a cabinet bator which they are going to lockdown in since it is alot easier to clean and it has a full glass front door.

you got pippers when did you set?
I set mine late afternoon on the 10th but turned them off for half a day while we drove the incubator home from the city we had them delivered to, so I didn't expect any action until tomorrow.
There's only the two doing anything (1 has hatched now), definitely early chicks. No other pips yet.
I believe I'm a good portion of a day ahead of you timewise? My chicks pipped morning 30th December, one hatched 4:45pm 30th December.
It's all that wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff that makes it confusing

Do u people ever sleep?
I do, just not when you probably do.
I'm in Australia, so I'll be heading to bed in a couple hours.

So, here's my first Barnevelder chickie, hatched early this evening

Hopefully many more to come in the next couple days...
