Quick question, what should the temperature be in the brooder for the first week? I'm super nervous since it's only 60+ degrees in the room and the brooder temperature is 103 degrees. is that too much for the first week or so?
By the way, chick number 4 is now almost completely zipped!!!
This is me:![]()

Excellent garden fertilizer for your vegetables, flowers, shrubs and more! (???) Oh, and I also have a mentally challenged chicken that has to have a bubble bath every two days..?
. I've got a baby chicky!!!!!!!![]()
!!!!! Not the one in the pic with the big pip but the other one who had just made a tiny crack when I checked this morning. He took literally 10 min to zip and hatch! I will post pics and maybe some a video clip when I get back from lunch....I don't wanna go now but I have too..
. The little guy is also bulldozing everythig in there including the probe for the bator...gotta get that brooder set up might darn quick here haha![]()
Woot!!! That's awesome about the peeping!!!
I'm sort of concerned about my own humidity as well. I can't monitor it with the thermometer I have because it only shows the humidity in the room, not the where the probe is and it's too big to put in the incubator with the egg carton so I am winging it and hoping for the best!!!
I did a dry run before set day and know approximately how much water to put in to get the humidity up to 35% but with the chicks hatching now, I just know the humidity is getting higher!!! I haven't added anymore water though, so I'm hoping it's not rising too fast...![]()

Quote: I'll always have some splash for my BLRW hens. They are so pretty red and white. But my blue sumatras may be something that I breed a black roo to the blue hens if I notice color not being as pretty. The splash sumatra I could keep one or two I suppose but white chickens just don't free range well in my yard.
I'm up to 12 chicks so far. IF I counted them correctly, they move quite fast. Still not opening the incubator even with another batch of eggs to go in.
Y'all are killing me!!![]()

Correction: I Have a CHICK!!!! Found this next to my broody![]()
These were shipped eggs packed and shipped in a cereal box! I was sure I would get nothing but 5 eggs made the cut.for the remaining 4.![]()
If I had no self control it is possible that I took a peek and perhaps saw what looked like a reddish gold baby drying out under mama. But that would only be if I had no self control![]()
