6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Im up to 8 chicks hatched now. We took 6 out after they were fluffy, it was getting a bit cramped in the bator! 1 more pip. 7 more that have been getting frequent pep talks. ;)

My daughters favorite....

My first chick to pip is slowly making progress. A piece of shell has dropped off and he has his little beak sticking out. Finally there is chirping coming from the 'bator. Here is the photo...

Now my worry is that it is very close to the underside of the egg. What happens if the egg rolls because he is maneuvering and the opening ends up rolling under. Would he still be able to breath? Should I roll the egg so the opening is facing up? I've already set up blankets and pillows on the downstairs couch in preparations for staying near the incubator tonight.

Sorry to quote myself, but I realized, I buried my question in the middle of my paragraph. I'm starting to panic about his position and I need someone to talk me off the cliff of opening the 'bator.

Any thoughts on if I should roll the egg would be greatly appreciated!!

Recap of our hatch: We started with 13 eggs and two were clear early on so they got pulled. Out of the remaining 11 the one that got dented has not piped or zipped so I will give it a little longer.
Am I hearing a sigh of relief from out Bama's way?

Ok I feel stupid asking but what is sex links?

There are NO stupid questions, only ignorant answers. Please do not ever hesitate to ask a question. Knowledge is a GOOD thing!

I agree, I can't post on all..but I sure am enjoying the photos.

So I think I've asked this but my brain is SCRAMBLED. Once this last baby is dry, as long as there are no external pips, it IS okay to take them out and candle the leftovers?

Also, regarding the mid-egg pip, I don't see any movement at that hole at all, no blood either. Is it even possible for a chick to pip there and them correct itself and go to the air sac? My guess is it's dead.

One of my chicks pipped low, around 11:30 last night. It just hatched a few hours ago.

I've read that when they pip low and not into the air cell, it takes longer for them to hatch. The external pip = an internal pip in this case.
