Here are the chicks from the NYD Hatch-a-Long. 6 Golden Cuckoo Marans and 3 Silkies for a 100% incubator hatch.

Love the aristocratic stature of the silkies!!!!

The leghorn dominates so they stay white. They are mixed with Rocks from the California Grey so they lay in the winter and the boys are big enough to process.

Yippee! I have been wanting a nice white egg laying breed too.
Great news Ron!

What TJ location did you get the eggs from? I am in Northern Cal

Would you rather have Calif. whites over Leghorns? any preference
I like the Mediterranean breeds so it would not matter. The CA whites are calmer according to the description but I already have some very flighty breeds--Penedesenca and the Arkansas Blues think I am going to kill them when I toss treats to them.

I love them though.

I love the idea that I will be able to get chicken dinner and eggs from $2.99 a dozen store eggs!

One more egg is zipping and there is one more with a pip. Not bad since it is barely 12 hours since they started to hatch. I have 8 of 17 it looks like so far. I set 24 too!

They are from Davis and were packed in Sonoma county. They did not have to go too far.

The Store is on my way home from work too.

I've created a monster in just 3 days. Chickie can now straighten his (they are all he's so I'm not disappointed when they end up being she's) neck for short periods of time. He can eat solid food with just a little help and pecks drops of water from the eye dropper. Today I found him out of his container and standing in his box, although he had to have support from the container. But- he throws a complete hissy fit when he wants scratched. He throws himself back and over (he can now get up most times when he falls on his back), he screams and thrashes around. As soon as I start rubbing around his head and neck, he calms down, closes his eyes and twists this way and that so I get all the itchy spots. Anyone need a special needs, spoiled little chick?

I had an over achiever today.
