That is amazing!
I know @blackgoat captured the way my roosters look exactly with the speckles of white on the mahogany, large red comb and wattles and the green aradecent tail feathers.

so, im very upset for the next few months to come.
we are about to move into a new home at the end of febuary. its a one floor ranch home with 1.74 acres. sounds great till you hear the zone doesn't allow chickens.
im so upset and I have no idea what to do. ive grown so attached to my chooks. I think I may try to sneak my oldest girl with us...haha id do anything to still have chickens.

im so connected to my chooks I want the best homes and such for them and its just an overall hard thing to part with...especially with the fact I FINALLY got frizzle to come up in my silkie breeding program., which I was planning to sell eggs this summer.

ANYWAYS im telling you guys
A) because you all are so awesome and supportive and
B) I cant live without any poultry.

SO I was wondering of any of you breed button quail? I was thinking that maybe I could just start my own small indoor flock :)

thanks so much guys :)

Sorry to hear you can't have chickens at your new place.

I feel your pain, we just found out today that we have to move out by the end of July, as the house we are renting is being sold. I probably won't be able to take my chickens with me, unless we get super lucky and find a place that allows chickens. I was getting on track for my OE project, and I finally got the Modern Game Bantams I wanted, and now I may not be able to keep any of them. I'm so sad just thinking about it. I hope your "indoor" flock idea works out for you!

I would go with Coturnix Quail--six weeks from hatch to eggs and they get bigger for eating.

What kind of place has that much acreage and does not allow chickens? If it is a county, see about getting an exemption.

Check out the LORE thread on BYC to see if there is anything you can do.

ok thanks! my friend breeds coturnix too....could they live with buttons? I really love buttons

im not sure....its out in a field farmed area here in NC and the house is in a wooded neighborhood with 4 other homes. theres basically nothing else around us.
ill check it out! thanks!

I don't get it....cary, which is a town about 20 minutes from me allows chickens; up to 5 hens, in the neighborhood. if cary allows this why cant my area? its weird....even with this much land.

I found an online petition with 75 signatures....do I sign it and try and find more petitions? im not exactly sure what to address...I want the chickens but the people around me may not want them around.
