Greetings all,
Newish to chickens. Brand new to chicks. We got 9 almost fully feathered chicks a few days ago. They obviously came from a dirty brooder, were very smelly and had poop stuck to their feet (hard, and dry approx 1/4”). No signs of illness.
Last night something killed all but one. I “peeped” to see if anyone was hiding and she popped out of the grass. She has what I think is a through and through bite/puncture on the left breast just under the wing. She was pretty shocky when I got her. I gently wiped away the torn feathers (not attached) and treated with vetricin. She is in a cat carrier with shavings, water, food and chick grit. After work I am planing to do the following:
Warm water bath
More thorough exam (two punctures or ?)
More vetricin on the wound
Pedialyte in her water
I am not sure what else to do for her. I appreciate any advice anyone can give me on treatment.
Thank you,
