72+ hrs since first pip, how much longer?

I don’t think it’s hanging, just sort of protruding. It looked a lot more swollen and the blood vessels were redder earlier but still doesn’t look right. I will get it out of the shell now though I think

Out of the shell now and resting under heat lamp but it looks quite bad, there was a bit of blood coming from the bottom of the yolk sac where it still seemed a bit attached to the egg. I put corn starch on the bleed as I don’t have anything else  seems to have stopped the blood but I’m really not hopeful as the yolk is still huge. It’s not hanging off or anything though so no chance of removing it

Give it some water on a spoon and see it it will eat. If you have some liquid vitamins like rooster booster, give it a drop.

You can also use a stronger than normal concentration of save a chick

For the next hatch, make sure that the incubator is at 99.5F

I’ve tried giving it some sugar water on a spoon but it did a lot of gaping afterwards. Is that it possibly getting a little fluid stuck in its airway? Don’t want to drown in by accident :( I only placed the spoon by the tip of the beak and allowed the chick to drink a tiny bit?

All you can do is try!

Do be careful. Try gently pushing it's beak into the water.

Hopefully it will perk up soon

Sadly little chick didn’t make it :(
Any ideas what caused the yolk not to fully absorb? I did read that too high humidity could cause their bellies to be too full or something to absorb the yolk? Or maybe it was an infection?

Humidity is not the number one cause of this. It is actually temps too low on average in the incubator.

The liquid and yolk are absorbed as the chick develops. Anything that hinders development will cause this.

Temperature needs to be in a 1 degree range-- 90f to 100f.

Humidity is in a 20 degree range from about 30% to 50% during incubation. Then up to 65% during hatching.

It seems counter intuitive doesn't it? but this is science and I have worked with some on BYC with this. One person did not believe me for more than a year. Then they bought a brinsea spot check thermometer and started having very good hatches
