7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

Oh cool! Those local ones? I hope they hatch! How many are there?
Wow, I hope those all hatch for you!

Yes, very local. My quail are living in their pen in the garage :) I set 4. They're not laying very well right now
But I got the eggs I hatched originally from a local guy in Spokane. I also bought a few hatchlings from him.

I do have a couple rabbit cages that I couldn't bring myself to throw away. I might have to look into it more. Do they take heat well? I like your adaptation to the egg rack.
I'd be happy with 75% lol

I'm in Sunny Florida, they do fine with heat.
I have another $4 timer that is hooked to a fan and it comes on about 10 and off at about 4 , just for the hottest hours of the day.

I have heard of 25%-85% hatch rates with quail, I hope I get at least one!

I suppose that's a good quality to have in a husband ;)  I would use this to my advantage for sure.. sitting by the window.. "Guess what our neighbor is up to next?! He's got his trash out already and feeding all his animals and it's barely light outside" :gig

That sounds like awesome neighbors to have.

I was thinking it might be that. Is it because you have many/expensive eggs you want to be that sure? or is it just a general precausion? :)

It's because in some incubators, a read from the center versus the side, can be a full 5 degrees off. Just depends on fans, circulation, and what kind of bator you have.

Well I'm out. ALL of my Cayuga eggs were clear.

Guess I'm gonna to have to have the ducks and the bees talk with my boy. Hopefully he will figure it out in time for Easter. I should have set some of my friend's silver laced wyandottes as back ups.

Oh no! That's frustrating!

Silver laced wyandottes are beautiful birds. I hope to obtain some of those.
