7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

400

This is what the hatch yielded

I still have quail eggs in there unhatched, I will wait maybe 2 days
Then im loading this sucker back up!

Congrats on the 5 chicks!! Sleep is overrated!

Good Morning!!

Congrats to everyone else with Chickeis!!

I have 7 chicks!! All 7 HAL chicks hatched.

I still have 2 from the 12/26 hatch in the "bator, I candled them last night. they both have movement, but no chirping, so I might crack them today to see what is going on.

I have 6 that I slipped into the bator a couple days after the 11th, 2 of those were clear, but one of those pipped last night.

I have 12 that I set on 12/26. They looked good at day 7.

Thanks for everyone's help getting this far!
Good Morning!
Congrats on the new chicks!
I have one that hatched yesterday morning, one that pipped late last night and has decided to take a coffee break (still chirpin, but not much zippin), and it looks like the other four that made lockdown quit.

I have one that I think requires intervention - its still alive so I may be able to help.

I have (had) 11 others hatch, but one passed overnight leaving me 10.

I have other eggs, and will try candling/listening again. I heard a couple of the eggs yesterday. The shells are very thick, so I can see the air cell line, but cannot tell if there are internal pips or not. I have a couple that were late quitters too. I'm not sure how long I want to keep the bator running after the current egg issue is resolved. I'm ready to clean it!

What is the best way to sanitize an incubator? I'm wondering if I haven't been sanitizing it properly - my first couple hatches I had >90-95% hatch rates. The eggs develop well, but quit/die LATE or chicks pass right after hatching. I'm thinking infection??

Quote: Svarthöna literally translates to "Black Hen". They are also known as Swedish Black Hens and are all black - inside and out - combs, wattles, feet, meat, bones, etc.

I got 3 hours sleep. At 5 chicks now.
Congrats on the chicks! Mine are still hatching, too.

We can have another HAL! I set 9 eggs on the 26th also, but I pulled 3 clears yesterday. Two of the clears were from my new layer in the project pen. I opened a couple she laid after those and they were fertile, so more went in yesterday, along with more Isbars and more Svarthöna.

I am up to 2 chicks now for this HAL, both Svarthöna, although one is blue. I have heard about the blue ones, but this is the first one that I have hatched. I'll get pictures when I take them out of the incubator. At least 2 more Svarthöna eggs are pipped. I can't tell on the rest. Nothing from the 2 project eggs yet (1st project pen), but they were set 2 days after the Svarthöna.

So sorry about the one you lost.

I hope the last ones hatch and do well for you.

I use Oxine to sanitize my incubators. I will activate it if I think I have a problem. I know a lot of people use a mild bleach solution to sanitize. What kind of incubator do you have?

Its from incubator warehouse.com - circulated air/automatic turner incubator. I am not sure how accurate the humidity dial is. I have never seen a chick fluff up while in the incubator - 12 hours later they still look like they just hatched!

I have to catch up but I wanted to share that ALL of my eggs hatched!! :weee
I'm so happy!! A few were a little slow and each time I checked on them throughout the night, I had good timing and got to see just as the chick pushed out!! I have 8 silkie babies!!
