7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

Nice looking chickens you have there!

What colors do you breed? Is there always a chance of a Show girl in each batch and also how well do show girls fair in winter?

I don't breed. I haven't kept a SG through the winter yet. I can't keep roosters, I do occasionally just to get some hens bred, but not the SG's and silkies..then I sell the roosters, or they go to a friend.

Contact the seller on ebay to see if they have a manual for it.

I hope so!

There is only a youtube on it. Will see if I can find it. It only shows how to use it though, didn't catch if there are any other questions on it. All I know is, that thing holds the temp and humidity great! The beeping is what got on my nerves. It beeps if it thinks the humidity is too low. Every time the bator is open it will be beep. And oh!
Watch those turners. They quit on a lot of folks. I swear I didn't notice for a while, just thought at first that my turner was always in the same place ever time I took a look through the sides, then it hit me. So I checked in about a half an hr. to make sure, nope, wasn't working. My hubby looked at it and said something about how they did the motor wrong..plus, it's flimsy, can't hold too many eggs..and I had a lot in there. I just bought a different turner, my hubby made a notch in it for the turner, and things were good from there. No notch on it because of how they have it wired inside for the turner.

I tried that right away, unplugged it for about 10 seconds and plugged it back in and it still says 7 days on it, i wonder if i should try unplugging it for longer than that....maybe a minute? would that harm the eggs? They've only been in for about an hour.
To change the time of days, hold that green button down for it for 5 seconds, it will go to 0.

Won't know for sure until Sunday but I'll let you know

(2 days grace period, right?)
That is for setting--longer for letting me know the number set.

They came from Michigan. I don't know how many are rir, riw or Browns but i am supposed to have the possibility of getting all 3 types in this group

I have them resting a little while longer before I put them in the bator. Check out that huge double yolker in the back! Poor hen probably have herself a hemorrhoid getting that out lol. I'm going to put in in the bator too but I won't hold my breath.

Those look nice! I love love the browns. Shoot, Michigan is one of those places I don't dare order from. Takes too long, or they get lost, or they come looking not so great. :/

I know this is cheating, but the local feed store got in a batch of baby chicks. They have Buff Orpington, Dominiques, Black Austerlorp, and New Hampshire Reds. Which ones would you choose? If I were to pick up 2 or 3 to go with my 3 week silkies, and 7 day old EEs, which should I get? One of each?

Cheater is right!

So I had my bator sitting on my dresser since the 9th. I had my eggs inside it just so they didn't accidentally get eaten. The first day I put too much water in so I dumped it out through the little holes in the bottom and set it back on my dresser and put the egg rack back in. Today I went to pull the eggs out and to turn the bator on. Now I see this discoloration where I dumped the water out 2 days ago. I've thoroughly bleached the bator but I need to know if the eggs that were sitting inside are ruined?

I'm just catching up here, so everything I'm writing to people have probably been answered in some way or another...here's what I do with my bators, wash them in a bleach solution like you, turn the heat up real high to dry it out..and it helps to get that steam up to the top of the bator for cleaning.
Those stains won't hurt anything..and....I don't put water in the bator the first 5 days, or even longer. I watch the air cells, when I see them where I pretty much want them, then I add water in one of the funnels. I keep it around low 30's. Then, the last week, around low 40's. Then, at lock down, low 60's. These styrofoams have been working like a charm for me. :)
