7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I candled the 7 HAL Serama eggs in the "Mind reader" incubator. One was clear but the other 6 are developing just fine.

The eggs that I had ordered for the HAL, got here this morning. They were not shipped right away. They were shipped Monday, but still took 5 days instead of 2-3. All have damaged or wonky air cells, One was broken, 4 look salvageable, so we shall see....

Congrats 6 out of 7 are developing! Hope you get a good hatch out of the new eggs.
I was wondering how you like that type incubator (I was thinking of getting one). Is there a noisy fan sound?

I'm totally out. I candled, day 11, and all I got was glowing eggs and in the lighter shelled ones all I could see was yellow yolk swishing around in there. I took a leap and cracked open two, and nope nothing. I cracked open all 24 and NO development in ANY of them. My guess is that either my new incubator spiked and killed day 1 or 2. OR my Roo, while a great dancer and chicken stomped, is too young, 9 months old. I have seen bullseyes when using eggs for cooking... so who knows.

Bummed, but may set more. Waiting to see if the lady I was setting for wants them 10 days late or just wants to wait until later in the spring.

REally bummed.

So sorry.

s'ok. He's been great entertainment. He's great at stomping on the hens. So he gets an 'A' for effort. He molted pretty hard too. So who knows.

I'm wondering about my boy. Only 6 months old, wanting to make any girl that comes by him. I did open one egg, it looked fertile. She isn't laying daily, so I only have one egg saved, and this was just todays, so, will keep gathering for a few more days and see what happens when they get stuck in the bator.

Well after an earthquake, power outage, incubator dying and a snow storm....I have a baby Ancona duckling!!!! She looks like she is mostly white right now so I think her name will be Vanilla Bean

The incubator has a blue light so she looks blueish...
Thank you guys for all of your help!! I don't know if she would be here without this site

So glad you got a baby after all that! Photos of it out of the blue light soon, please....!

Do you mean the Lyon incubator or the R-com? Both are pretty good. It's the first time I've used this old Lyon. You can't turn the eggs as gently as the R-com. And taking the humidity down would be similar to getting it down in a styro-bator. It keeps a very steady temp though. R-com is very quiet. Lyon isn't very noisy either.
