7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I have done pretty good with all of the folks bring goodies to our house to wish us a Merry Christmas! If I say so myself.

I am hatching on shares with a local lady. I sent a bunch of eggs since my roo and hens are young and I was not sure of fertility. That and everyone talks about losing lots. Well, only two were infertile and none died prior to lockdown. I put an add on Craigslist. I expected half of what I may end up with.

ihear the silkies like to go broody. Do you have problems with it?

Well...this is my first year with Silkies & my broody is a bearded one, but I also have a non bearded pullet, too. I don't know if it makes a difference but my bearded went broody in October, which I was able to "break" her of. But she went broody again in November & I wasn't able to break her, so I bought her some eggs. The non bearded has not acted like she might go broody at all. I hope I didn't jinx her by just saying that. They are both just so cute!!

Pretty!

It looks like I have one egg with a big air cell for day 11 or whatever it is. Seems silly to break out another bator for one egg, any other ideas? I just had to candle and think about what adorable silkies could be in those eggs.

Incubate to the average of your eggs--You do not want to hurt the hatch because of one egg that may be wonky. It may not hatch because there may be something wrong with it.
