7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

trying to get some pictures/video uploaded - but I have one chick that's not acting like the others. It responds to voice/movement but stands in place whereas the others all scatter together.

I picked her up and examined her and there was a bunch of poop on her bottom. ?pasty butt? I took it inside and gently soaked/cleaned her bottom. She does have a little black nubbin at her umbilical area too. I dried her off and got her back in a temp brooder with electrolyte water - but she is worse off than that.

its not opening its eyes and has "shakes" almost like having seizures. No breathing problems. can stand and get up. Now that dry and warm, not chirping in distress. It will take water when I hold it in a spoon in front of her beak, but not seeking anything out (then again eyes are closed).

Any ideas?

If the pics come to my email, I will post... but not so much luck right now.

So thankful for everyone that shared their laughs & successful hatch photos! Love all the pictures & encouragement. Started with 26, 17 made it to lockdown. 14 hatched, last four Barbezieux today! Three hatched with bleeding from the navel area. Does anyone know what would cause this?
Will post photos tomorrow when my Barbezieux chicks are fluffed! They are sprawled out resting.

Nice I'm glad you got some. Did any of the Bresse hatch

Only two out of 5 hatched. Got 1 sfh and 1 salmon faverolle who may or may not make it (aspirated, but is crazy perky but i can hear a click when she breathes

). My phone pooped out so i didnt have the internet (awaiting new phone in the mail) til a brief period this evening. Got hope for the duckies due on the 12th and my poor little faverolle who has so much spunk. Id back read to catch up the thread, but cant do that in the few min i have right now, but i will tomorrow! I hope everyone else had better hatch rates than me!!
SFH I want some. Better hatch next time.

This sounds like how mine acted. Shaking/convulsing eyes closed. Tried vitamens and food mixed with water did not work hope you have better success. I used tiny syringe to admin the meds no pasty butt though

I appreciate the wishes for success, but I am pretty pessimistic at this point! I've lost a few post-hatch now. I think there was something wrong with my incubator set-up. Ventilation for sure, and maybe also improper sanitization? So - I am ready to do it again and hopefully with better success. I'm starting to get dark easter-eggers that could potentially be olive eggers! I'm hoping the down indicates feather color as most of my chicks are all white from my light brahma rooster... time to re-home him so my others get more action!

Better than water.
Especially if you cant be there every two hours
And keeps the bator moister from not having to open and risk losing others

In the past I've used paper towel moistened with water to help them. This time with Bacitracin I could actually watch the blood vessel get better. Thanks for the tip and thanks Sally sunshine for the site about helping chicks out. Just keep it on membrane only, I was lucky to have it on hand.
