8 eggs in the incubator

Ok, well lock down was last night but I think I made a boo boo. I filled both trays up with water, adjusted the vent and thought I was done. Well, when I woke up this morning, I noticed that I didn't stop the auto turner. :barnie So, I had to remove the incubator from the auto turn and set it on the table. When I did this, I noticed that there was a puddle of water on the table. :barnie Did I screw up by not stopping the auto turn? :hit

Don't sweat it, I've had plenty of eggs pip while the turner was going. Just unplug it if you are hatching in the bator. or if you aren't hatching shipped eggs with air cell problems take the turner out and lay them on the floor of the bator.

Ok. But now I"m worried about something else now that you mentioned to lay them on the floor of the bator. Was I supposed to take the dividers out because I forgot??????????????? :barnie I guess you can tell I"m new at this. This is only my 3rd time hatching and I have only had 1 successful hatch. Will they be ok with the dividers still in there or do I need to take the dividers out ASAP?

Are you using a Brinsea Eco 20? If so as long as you turn off the auto turner they should be ok, but if you want to pull the racks out you can still quickly do that too. I think you'll be fine tho with them left in, good luck!

Yes, I am. I did turn off the auto turner. Thanks for the input. I feel better now. :)

To my surprise the eggs started hatching last night. :idunno They weren't scheduled until Saturday. I took some pics but the quality of the pics is POOR being as though I was trying to take a pic through the incubator. 3 have hatched so far and a couple more were zipping.

YAY!! Congrats!!! Happy for you!! See told you they'd be ok! And I see some Pieds!

My hatch is still going on, I have 12 keets in the brooder, 8-10 more in the hatcher that hatched yesterday/last night and are dried/fluffed and need to be moved out to the brooder, plus there's still some wet keets and another 11 or so eggs left to go. A few eggs looked like they might have been late quitters, but we'll see. This is day 27.

I thought about you last night when I saw one baby pop out. I remember you saying that you have early hatches. Do you know what causes early hatches?

How long should I leave them in the incubator before taking them out - and especially if the other eggs have not hatched? Is tomorrow too long to leave them in? When will they be ready to eat and drink?

I have been wondering the same thing kuntrygirl. I have them in the bator but they are still drunk sailors. I put one that I thought was ready in my "ICU" brooder and it got in the water after falling over 'drunk'. I have three keets that are still not up and moving around. I think I may try to get some chick saver in them. I think I'm going to lose them.

I had to put down one of the keets last night. I also had to help all but one out of the shell. The other seven I had have not hatched. The girl I purchased the eggs from on ebay said to put a pip hole in myself. I did 4 of the 7 eggs and all 4 of those were DIS. I'm doing something wrong! I shouldn't have had to help all those keets that pipped and the 4 that I artificially pipped were completely developed, they just did not have the strength to hatch. What has caused this? Temp? Humidity? I know I had to keep opening the lid to take out the pipped eggs to help out of the shell but they were already weak and not able to hatch on their own by that time. These eggs were really small, I don't think we got back around to finding out the average size of a guinea egg. I'm wondering if this has something to do with them being weak.

I also had 6 duck eggs in the hatcher, one hatched the other 5 did not externally pip.

All the eggs I had in the bator this time were shipped eggs, the duck eggs did have really bad air sacks so I'm thinking this is why those did not hatch?

TIA

I'm glad that I'm not alone in wondering that. Maybe PeepsCA will come along and give us an answer. I wonder if I need to take them out tonight when I get home. :idunno

Sounds like you had a difficult hatch. So sorry to hear that.

You're right, we didn't get around to finding out the average size. I never found any information about it. I did notice that my 46g egg was #1 and #2 to hatch (whatever that means). And that #1 little buggar was up and running in no time. When I shined the light on him, he took off running on top of the eggs and sat in an area that didn't have any eggs. It was too funny. :gig And that was in less than 24 hours that he did that. As a matter of fact, he started zipping around 8PM last night and was a little race horse at 5:30 AM when I checked on him. He was out of the shell and running like a crazy man in the incubator. I think I"ll do more research on those egg weights and see if I can find out anything and let you know.

Sorry to hear about the duck eggs.

Do you plan on incubating any other eggs?

I hope to have pea eggs in the incubator next weekend. :fl
