8 eggs in the incubator

LOL once you have a successful hatch or 2, and more confidence you'll become a hatch-o-holic like the rest of us!

I had a good Easter hatch for the Grandkids. We set EE's for colorful fuzzy chicks and a leghorn cross that we dyed a couple since they were yellow chicks. The kids had a good time watching chicks hatch the day before Easter then went to the barn to see the kittens and found a broody with a new chick. We showed off the dyed chicks at Sunday school, the kids loved them (big kids too).
I haven't bothered the broodys sitting on the Guinea eggs. I will try to remember to candle them tonight. I have tried to be more relaxed and not do a bunch of candling. with my bators too. The broodys really I can only candle at night, since they are in the barn. There is no way to make it dark. So someone remind me

Walmart and RadioShack usually have fairly inexpensive digital Hygrometer/Thermometer units that are thin/small enough to lay on top of the eggs so you can read them easily. I try to keep my Humidity in the 45-50% range for Guinea eggs.
All my posts usually get edited cuz I typo a lot... I can spell, just can't type! :D
:thumbsup Thank you.

The 12 eggs the coral blue breeder sent me free arrived on Friday. I set them last night. I weighed them and they are closer to the 40-47g weight that you got kuntrygirl. I don't know if the coral blue eggs I got are from new layers and that is why they are so small or not? These 12 eggs came from her mixed flock, one seems very large compared to my corals. It is the 47g weight and when sitting beside the 27g weight one looks giant. I wonder if it's a double yoker or if that is actually the size guinea eggs should be. I think if I have some time today I will take some pics.

in other news my 6 duck eggs are all fertile and a few have some odd shaped air sacks but I think as long as the duckling is in the correct position they should hatch out ok. The 12 BLRW eggs I got the same week I got the ducks and guineas are not developing well. I only have three that even appear to be fertile. I am going to recandle tonight and toss the 9 that are not. I am going to see if I can get DH to video me cracking them open and get some opinions on what might be the reason they didn't develop.

Bummer, I hate to see such bad news for you on the shipped BLRW and Guinea eggs

Hopefully the next batch of Guinea eggs does better for you. Small eggs are normal for the beginning of the season from my first timers, but the size usually increases within a week or so. It seems keets from my flocks' small eggs have a harder time hatching, hopefully that's not the case with yours. Since it's a mixed flock these eggs were collected from... maybe the breeder has some Jumbos in the mix? That would account for the bigger egg.... but yah it could be a double yolker too.

I did an "official" candling of my 53 eggs this morning... pulled out 11 clears and one with a blood ring, so I have 42 developing eggs. I was only expecting 30 or so good eggs out of this batch... gonna be a big hatch, ugh. I may lose a few that quit between now and hatch time, but I'll probably still end up with well over 30 keets. Dang you enablers!

I also pulled out a few quitters from my big batch of 99 eggs that's due to hatch a week before this batch of 42. I think I have somewhere between 75 and 80 eggs in that batch that are developing... so after one more medium sized setting next week I am not setting any more eggs for a while, (at least until I sell most of them). I'll be up to my ears in keets, lol UGH!

I did get the guinea eggs candled the other night, all seemed to be developing fine.

Wish I could say the same for my luck with the bator. The broodys were off quite a bit yesterday it was 103 degrees so the girls were more likely fanning the eggs than sitting.
There are more evil enablers over on the 24hr auction page, they keep putting up guinea eggs now too, mixed colors!
