I have an 8 mo old Peking who has layed her first solid shelled egg (following maybe 3 rubbery ones) a couple months ago, and that's it! No more. We also have a male and female Welsh harlequin and get an egg daily from that breed, but none from our Pekin. Does it ever happen that a female is just a dud at laying?

Is it possible she is laying somewhere out of sight? Ducks like to hide their eggs.
Nope. That's what I thought too but she only has a couple of hangouts and they are right up by the house. Her first attempts were next to or in her pool. On our small property, we have SCOURED the yard. None.

Hmmm It's odd she would start laying and then stop. I've never had a Pekin but I know they don't lay as much as some of the other breeds. It could be she's more of a seasonal layer and will start again in spring when the days get longer. If she is otherwise acting normal and healthy I personally wouldn't worry. I would just wait and see what happens when the you start getting closer to 14 hours of light a day.

I'm a fairly new duck mom but can tell you not all of our Pekins lay in the winter months. We live in Florida so I kind of expected them to lay year round, 2 are still laying but one isn't. Hopefully yours will start laying in the Spring!

I would increase her intake of calcium, maybe give her 80 mg of calcium citrate a day for a week or so. And watch for any signs of discomfort. It may not be likely, but ducks can have eggs get stuck inside them.

I have two pekins around that age and they don't and never have laid. I've been told they are seasonal and will lay in the spring. Boo. I'm in Georgia.
