This is Astra… my favorite sweetie of the group (of course). The wattles are getting a little redder than I’d like to see on an 8week pullet. Thoughts?

At 8 weeks, so two months old? That's a cockerel. Some full body photographs would make me 100% sure, but I've raised the "American" Lavender Orpingtons and the pullets kept dark combs forever. Anyone showing any red this early was undoubtedly a cockerel. And having like 16 out of 22 being male, I had a lot of practice picking them out.

Thanks for the heads up. I’d read that elsewhere, too.

I will definitely get some body shots as well. What would you be looking for in the body shots at this point?

Size of legs and feet compared to known pullets, possible development of male-specific sex feathering such as hackles and saddles. Good lighting and a natural stance will help with that.

Will do. She/he is the only orphinton so no comparisons. 😞
