8 week lavender orphington…gender?

Gorgeous girl! I appreciate that she's less shredded then many lavenders!

So true! I love my goofy little lavender, but she def has the shredder gene. I got her kind of by accident, and I still love her color, but she is definitely shredded.

I have a lil peep that I’m hoping is a really poor quality Lavender Orpington and noticed today it looked a bit frizzy compared to all the other chicks we’ve had. How early does shredding happen?

Both of mine had it from their first feathers on…I think sometimes after their first real molt sometimes the feathers are a bit better…but not always.

My experience, too. I was a lil disappointed, but that's kinda how it goes with the hatchery birds. But I love the little chicken! She's funny and super active! It's not her fault her feathers suck.

Yeah same here! I sort of wanted to use my Roo with my two Isabel lavender hens…but I don’t know that I really want to perpetuate the gene :-/ Blah! I love his personality, he’s just a great boy! But like you said, it’s not his fault haha.

Hi! I wanted to let everyone know that Astra IS a girl. (I hate when people don’t ever confirm these things in a thread and you never know for sure!). She’s not laying yet but is 100% a girl. Thanks so much for all the support with this! She was definitely an early developer of red comb and wattles! Hopefully this will give hope to others out there!
