Hey guys we had one of our babies get hit by a coop door yesterday, the only visible injury is a cut on his leg. About an hour later he developed a sneeze and is gurgling a bit. Also has some clear nasal discharge. When he attempted to tweet yesterday it was very gargled. We brought him inside and put him in a warm dry place with little hustle and noise to rest this morning he is awake and seems more alert and his tweeting seems to be getting back to normal but is still sneezing and gargling a bit. We are giving him sugar water with a dropper and feeding him some mushed up feed because he does not seem to have any interest in feeding or drinking. Could this be caused by some underlying internal injury's and has anyone seen this before. Kinda worried about the little bugger

How is your little one doing?

It's possible that he may have suffered some internal damage from the door hitting him. He may have also aspirated some food/water from the crop back into his airways if he was mashed/crushed.

If you have a vet that would be best, but for internal injuries or aspirated liquid/food, there's not a lot you can do about that. The worry about aspiration would be developing air sac/lung pneumonia, so if he continues to gurgle and have mucous then he may need antibiotics to help fight any infection.

Try your best to keep him hydrated. Sugar water if fine. If you have them you can also give some poultry vitamins.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the response, He is doing much better now was able to stay with the flock last night, seems the hatch hit him in the right side of the face. He has some swelling on that side of the head and the discharge was only coming from that side. He looks like he will pull through.
