I’ve had a suspect cockerel for a while, and today I noticed some bumps on “her” legs. There’s some points growing out of these bumps. Could it be spurs growing in? She’s 2 months old, much bigger than her two sisters, and has a more developed and redder comb. I’m wondering if this is just another reason to think she’s a rooster?

I've seen plenty of pullets with little bumps like that on the legs, so I don't think they mean anything.

At 2 months old, with a comb that red, you probably have a cockerel.

Any crowing yet? Crowing usually settles the matter :)

No crowing yet.... although I have heard a few strange crow-like noises from her/him. I’ll keep her/him either way, but I’m technically not supposed to have roosters in my neighborhood... guess I might try a no crow collar if it’s a boy.

Do you know what a rooster looks like when he crows? (Youtube can help if you don't.)

I sort out what weird noises are crows and what are not by watching the bird--crowing cockerels just look different than chickens making other kinds of noises (at least, they do to me.)
