8 Week Old EE - I Hope It's A Boy

Quote:
at 8 weeks, you won't see saddle or hackle feathers. Most EE's can be color sexed, plus this one is reddening up already at 8 weeks. Hopefully OP will post back in a few weeks so we can know for sure.

The dark red coming in on his wings and the messy black hackles are dead give aways for a boy EE. Girls have nice even pretty lacing type markings when they have black on them, and they will have more black on their bodies than on their necks. They also don't have splotches of that dark red color ever.

I have about decided that...

Boy EEs tend to have:
Randomly place, blotchy, rust red spots on their wings and back.
Tail feathers that are scruffy looking.
Three rowed combs that pink up before 12 weeks.
Like to stand neck stretched up with their eyes on the horizen as though they were on "guard duty"

Girl EEs have:
Very symmetrical feather coloring.
Neat tidy tail feathers that line up like a lady's fan.
Mostly have a single row pea comb but can have three but don't tend to pink up till after 12 weeks.
Spend more time head down foraging and less time on guard.
