"Speckled Beaters" hmmm. Sadly, most of my chickens only get one name - and a few I can't tell apart are just the "Littles" even though some of them are much bigger than the "Big girls" - it's all as logical as chicken math.
Olive Cluckers

Does anyone have any idea of how to get my chickens in the mood for breeding? Heat lamps? Candle light dinners? I want them to breed so I can have fertile eggs for a Valentine's Day hatch.

I think so much just has to do with the temperament of the rooster. Ours is a regular Romeo, mixed with a little Elvis: He obviously quotes sonnets to the girls, the way they run to his every verbalization, and then he does some serious dance moves to make them swoon. Of course, he has no competition- yet. He may even believe he is the only rooster, ever. And without his amazing skills, the entire chicken population would die off.

Ok so I finally caught up on over 900 posts. Sorry to those who had eggs that did not start. I did manage to set shipped silkie eggs on the 11th and candled this morning. 75% are developing nicely. Now if I can just get them to hatch.
