Well, day 3 on my Trader Joe eggs. Thought for sure I would see some veinging on some that I pulled..didn't..so pulled more, didn't, so did them all. Nothing! In white eggs, I usually see some veining somewhere! 3 doz. eggs. And I've waited a long time to try TJ's.

Three days is a bit early. You will see much more by day 5 and some may not show veins until day 7.

Often is has to do with the thickness of the eggs as well as color. Some are more opaque then others. Some light blue eggs are hard to candle.

I set some yesterday and I'm going to set whatever I get by Tuesday too. I'm not right on the date this year but within the time frame lol. I'm hoping to get more silkies and some showgirls

Love the silkies and SG's. I have some silkies in, due the 19th. Wish I had some SG's..it's been a while since I've hatched some. They are pretty spendy to buy.

#4 is only partly correct. If a hen stops laying, it's because she has something wrong with her ovaries. It's not because she's take on the role of 'rooster' in the flock. There are plenty of dominant hens that both lay and crow.

I agree, they should have said it differently. Of course most will lay when they take a roll. I just call them my head hen. I don't have roosters around much anyway, but there is always a boss, and, they will alert the rest of the flock when something happens. I love seeing that from a head hen.

I'm one of those night owls, so I will be setting the 6 eggs that are big enough in the incubator before I go to bed. If any more are laid tomorrow, I will add those in there, too. I don't want to do another split hatch this time.
