8th-annual-byc-new-years-day-2017-hatch-a-long

I would lockdown them all on the date that the middle egg should be going in to lockdown so one will be a day late, one right on time and one a day early lol

Good luck, that is a hard call, I would set it up for the eggs I want to hatch the most.

i would do as you said 1 day late for 1, on time for the others and early for the last
but it is said that turning isnt as important the last 7 days so to lock down early is not bad

Ok, it's settled. I'll lockdown on the middle day for those 3. Thanks, everybody!

I'm feeling your pain on the candling! I've straightened my eggs a couple of times in the tray when dealing with the humidity but I'm trying really hard to wait until Saturday to candle them. Today is day three, so technically I could, but should I? I think I need to muster up some patience lol

I'm candling today. I can't wait anymore and it's day 5, so I might be able to see something. I can't wait for it to get dark do I can try it!!! Good luck with that whole patience thing...I suck at it! Lol

Tossed the TJ eggs. All yolkers, except 1 that looks like it tried to start, but there was a definite, tiny blood ring up around the air sack and nothing else. I had to take 4 of my Bielefelders out too, and of my own eggs, 4 came out as well - ironically, the hen whose eggs I just finished a 100% hatch, this time - they were not even fertile!

That's a pity, I was following and hoping.
My local TJs and the one in central Philadelphia don't sell fertilized eggs. But my local GIANT does sell big brown fertilized eggs. Now I'm not so sure I want to gamble on a 3rd box of 12 to see if I can hatch any.

I'll keep checking the numbers on the boxes though. And if they're within a week I'll throw some in the 'bator

Last year I set 2dz and had great fertility!
I am going to pick up some fertile eggs from whole foods to test for fertility. If they do well I can see about getting some for you next time I go to see my Mom in Shingletown--likely the week after Christmas.
Fellow Nor Cal person! Awesome! Yes, keep me posted on what you find!

Ok, so I'm pretty sure I suck at candling...couldn't figure out which way to turn the egg...but I got a kinda decent pic of the one that I could barely see a couple little veins in. It doesn't show up super well in the pic. It's right about in the middle. Can you see them?

That's good ole #7. Had faith in that one from the beginning, and as of now, it's the only one that I am willing to guess is developing so far. Hopefully when I candle again on Friday (day 7) I'll have some more definitive answers.
Also, quick question...I don't know if you can see them, but I saw these whitish little steaks that I thought were veins at first and wasn't sure what they are. Can anyone tell me? They kinda look like stress fractures or something. Is it normal? Pretty much all the eggs had these (they're at the bottom near the air cell, mostly):

ETA: Can any of you pros see something I might've missed? I'd love to know what you guys think!
