8th-annual-byc-new-years-day-2017-hatch-a-long

Man I hope I don't get on my pc later and see that they did show up..sorry if there are multiples. I'll know next time.

It is confusing. I have three eggs that I set one at a time, one per day, starting two days after my others. When should they go into lockdown? Can they go in a little early or late, because if that's the case, I'll just average it out and do lockdown when the second egg would have gone...will this work OK? If only I hadn't set that third egg, this wouldn't be nearly as confusing!

Good luck, that is a hard call, I would set it up for the eggs I want to hatch the most.

Maybe the worker I talked to is right. The hens just get to look at a rooster through a fence.
Well if that's the case, they should know better to be pitting..fertile eggs..on those cartons. lol. I thought someone had said this..twas you. I was thinking of that post as I was turning them a few different times. lol

I had told my friend with a broody to get some. None of hers hatched but she has never done this before and her broody abandon the eggs. She put them in an incubator but nada.

Yours didn't work either? I had to toss 3 doz. TJ eggs.

Last year I set 2dz and had great fertility!
yep - somebody call TJ's and tell those roosters to get busy!!! (I know, there are multiple other factors involved too!)
I am going to pick up some fertile eggs from whole foods to test for fertility. If they do well I can see about getting some for you next time I go to see my Mom in Shingletown--likely the week after Christmas.

Oops! I added another egg today!! Couldn't help it. I'm just trying to up my chances of actually hatching some babies. They look all snug and cozy, don't they?

ETA: By the time it's time to candle, I may very well lose my mind. It's SO HARD not to pull them out!! I just wanna see what's going on! I'm a nervous wreck. My mom has already forbidden me to speak about them when we're talking because I talk about and fret about my temps and humidity so much, lol. I might break down and try to candle tomorrow. The kids begging me to do it is not helping, either!

I'm feeling your pain on the candling! I've straightened my eggs a couple of times in the tray when dealing with the humidity but I'm trying really hard to wait until Saturday to candle them. Today is day three, so technically I could, but should I? I think I need to muster up some patience lol

I'm trying to restrain myself until Friday. That would make them 1 week in to it and hopefully give me a good look at them. It's hard though! I want to look every day!

i would do as you said 1 day late for 1, on time for the others and early for the last
but it is said that turning isnt as important the last 7 days so to lock down early is not bad
