This is so true. Since I've quit picking favorites ( I still do but I don't say it out loud anymore) the slighter has stopped.......................... but then again maybe the 6 dogs around here has stopped it. Possums are my worst enemies though. Haven't seen too many coons around. They are here tough.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it finally happened. I FINALLY, after 9 long months of waiting, got my very first blue egg from my blue ameraucana girl, Cora. I actually predicted yesterday to my mom that she was gonna lay today, and lo and behold, there it was, nestled in the nesting box all cozy and still warm from being laid

I've never been so proud! Valentine's Day puffy cheeked babies, here I come!!! She will have been laying for about a month by the time I start gathering eggs for that, so hopefully my little cockerel is doing his job

Aren't 1st eggs eggciting? Especially green eggs. I've got a new green egg layer myself.? Gathered her second egg today. Her mama was a green egg layer that I wound up selling not knowing she laid green eggs. The lady I sold her to had this hen in with a Polish rooster. I got three eggs from her and only this pullet hatched. Lucky I guess it turned out a pullet. Anyway she didn't turn out NN but dies have a crest. She's in a pen with a rooster fthat hatched from my GELNN hen ( posted about her below). So hoping for some more green Eggers in the spring.
I set 42 eggs from my easter/olive egger girls earlier this month and just now found this forum LOL. All but 4 were fertile at eight days and one has since died. But the other 37 are still with us. They'll be easter eggers and super blues. I can't wait. edit to fix typos
Love those green colors.. I've been working on a line of green egg laying Naked NecksI was left for almost two years with only one hen that is NN and lays a green egg. I've hatched just about every egg I could get from her trying for at least one pullet to continue her line. My last hatch from September something I finally got 2 pullets. So waiting one then to start cone spring.

Last night there was a 2 hour power cut! Incubator went ice cold......along with the egg (Remaining from when the cat 'attacked' the incubator) and when all heat was lost i grabbed the remaining egg and kept it against my skin....candled it....it was alive....as soon as the power came back on i chucked it in the incubator.....candled this morning....its alive...due to hatch an day...

Did you get a picture of the egg to post?

Hah, fabulous!! I really do enjoy some good meat rabbit small talk.
I find talking about eating my birds causes some people to be upset.

You must say, "How are you enjoying these delicious buffalo wings? Yes, yes, they are quite good - in fact, and you will never believe this - THAT particular wing hit me pretty hard in the face as I was putting it into the killing cone! You don't find the meat tough, do you?"
