8x8 Coop Building Diary!! *pictures* UPDATE on pg 7!

I know for Placer county, we have to permit EVERYTHING! Even small shed with no perm flooring. Even Pole barns unless it is a portable structure and their definition of portable definetely does not match ours!!! They even do fly overs like twice a year I believe to take photo's. Hmmm, and I am paying taxes for this???

We even had to permit the fence we put around our old doughboy pool!

That stinks! Your town over lords are ridiculous!

I went to our town and they basically said I can have as many as I like as long as they dont get noise complaints from roosters. Once I assured them no roosters, they basically said, "Have fun".
No coop permits needed and as long as I, again don't piss off the neighbors with it (smell, noise, etc). Since I'm only getting 4 (to start) the town is very cool with it.

Our county is money hungry. We went to look at getting a permit for a 4 stall pole barn, they wanted almost $900 dollars. Their logic was that eventually someone might live in it! Go figure.

Oh they were very serious. There are a lot of Booney areas in Placer county, and I guess people will live in anything! So yup, they said even if we sell the house, etc. Someone could come in a make it a granny unit.

The building departments logic constantly dumb founds me!

Whew! Today has been good coop wise.

We got the roof on, although we have to get one more corrogated panel to have a little overhang on either side. Got the primer/sealer on

and got one of the roosts in!

in a very odd place. She laid on the top of the nestbox UNDER the tarp that is over their coop and nestboxes on either side. LoL! I didn't disturb her though. 2.1 ounces!! Whew! She was tiiiired and thirsty after lol!

On a sadder note, my dark brahma is not feeling well and I am real worried about her. She just started being real lathargic abou three days ago, but no other symptoms, eating and drinking until today. Today she has not been well, so I made her comfortable and hopefully she will stay comfortable and peaceful through the night. She is just coming out of a molt also, and it is very damp, cold and foggy here most of the day. I am just letting her rest, and hoping she will pull through. She was healthy and had a strong immune system before, but I think the molting weakened it a little. I don't know, and the rest of the girls are totally fine.

I looked at our local county ordinances before building our coop. If you can find your county/city rules it may help you avoid the permit police.

Here our coop is way under the minimum for needing a permit (4x8- I think it i was 120sf for a permit), we have NO running water OR Electricity and it is clearly not designed for anyone to sleep in (although my mom thought about it.....)
