Where are the windows going? Where's the chicken door gonna be? How many roost bars, and where will they go? Inquiring minds want to know!
The windows are planned to be one on each side staggered, so as not to be directly across from each other. There will be two roosts made of 2x4's across the back wall. Exact location TBD. Planned height of roosts tentatively set at +/- 18". The main coop door is going to be a "dutch" door, split in two. The bottom half will be 2ft in height, and the top half is 4ft. The bottom half will be the chicken door, able to open independent of the top half.
The master suite is located in the back, complete with lavish master bath filled with every conceivable luxury amenity.
You are my inspiration! I have 4 girls coming in late April, so you have given me the ideas and ways to build a coop that will work very well. I plan on something half that size, maybe 4 X 8 or even 4 x 4.
The outdoor run should be 6 X 10, so plenty of room for them to roam!
I plan on doing the same and post pics as I start the build!
I am so excited I cannot stand it lol!! It is so spacious inside I cannot wait to get it finished and get my chickens in! Windows are going kind of kitty corner from each other on either wall. There won't be a chicken door I think they will just use the people door to go in and out as they please lol. The finished product is going to be a sight to see!!! Cannot wait cannot wait cannot wait to get working on it today lol!
We have a few extra 2x4 for roosts, and one will be about 12-16 inches away from the wall and about 18 inches high (because I have and will have large fowl ie brahma, orpington ect). Then a second roost about 12-16 inches away from the first one, same height. I am sure I can get away with one roost, but I have a dominant Barred Rock and would rather spread out the flock rather than chance any bickering.
The floor frame was 2x6's and the FLOOR plywood was 5/8ths I believe? I am sure Farmer Lew will clarify as well. But I know for sure the floor frame is 2x6 and the plywood used was a thicker type because I am a bigger gal and wanted to be able to walk comfortably around the coop and not have to worry ya know?
The floor is VERY strong and has no give when I, Lewis, and the dog are inside working on roofing or whatever. It holds us all easily.

We used 2x6x8 GDF for the floor framing. And to make it easier, I used 2x6 Simpson Strong-Tie joist hangers. The decking is 4x8 3/4 RTD shtg. The walls are skinned with 4x8 1/2 inch RTD shtg. All from Home Depot.
