Silkies- I will need to update with more photos so you can see their combs. Only have side shots
FBCM mutt- definitely a boy, he has started to crow. This is definitely not a pure FBCM, any guesses to what he's mixed with?

That last chick has a rose comb. If they are all from the same place, I'd guess a Marsh Daisy jumped the fence. If the Orpingtons are the same age as the others, then they both look like cockerels. The Speckled Sussex is a mixed breed. Not sure about that Marsh Daisy. The comb is a bit pink, but not enough for me to say cockerel for sure, and that coloring is a bit on the patchy side.

Gertie has too much wattle development, and is too pink in the comb for a 3 month old Orpington pullet. They tend to be a slower to develop breed, so some cockerels take a bit longer to be obvious.

Funny thing about the Speckled Sussex. I showed the breeder the photo and she said it wasn't a mix. She has enclosed breeding pens so it was unlikely (although not impossible) that she has an unknown baby daddy

. What she thinks happened is... she had NH Reds, Rhodebars and the Speckled Sussex all together in the grow out pen and accidentally grabbed a NH Red. She was great though, offered to let me exchange for a Speckled Sussex. I'm going to keep the one I have but go ahead and pick up an SS anyways for some eye candy in the flock

Weird how she was speckled up to 2 weeks ago and feathered out the way she did. I didn't think the NH Reds or Rhodebars had speckled babies. Either way, we were both confident she is a "she" so that's fine with me. I'm only raising for eggs and entertainment anyway!

The thing is, she's got white legs. That means she can't be a New Hampshire or Rhodebar, they have yellow skin.

Here is mom. Dad is barely in the photo to the right. She has white legs like a SS. Any guesses as to what she could be mixed with? Or is she just a poor quality SS?
