9 out 4 to go

I will be keeping most of mine. I have a steady flow of people to buy my chicken eggs and would love duck eggs. So I will keep all 5 I have now, since we are so attached. Plus at the rate I hatch roossters I am sure they are all drakes. haha And next batch, I will try to sex them and keep the females. I have 2 people lined up to take the males or if not CL. The calls, will be our pets.
I have 8 acres, so there is plenty of room..

p.s. when will I be able to sex my 4 week olds???

I got 6 females from Metzer last year and all mine were QUACKING up a storm by 6 weeks old. I sexed Elliot, and I THINK I saw a weiner but I didnt sex Gemini, she hollered so much as a day old I said..It MUST be a woman to have a mouth like that, Elliot on the other hand, you never hear hollerin at all. SO we will see when they are older what they are

Thank you, and what has happened to our daily fix of the 2 new little ducklings, did I miss it?

My eggs have been very active for the past 2 days and with me going out today and not knowing what time I will be back I thought I would go ahead and put them into Lockdown.
Took the eggs out, wet my faceclothes, filled water in the slot thingys, got my sponge and plastic bowl ofwater ready and candled 1 last time and inspected eggs. Alls fine, 4 are a little behind...I have a cold spot in incubator but never mind.
Put basket of eggs back in bator and BOOM 1 of them Pipped the shell!!! The shell rocked quite a bit when it happened and it caught my eye. Water was on hand so eggs got quickly sprayed down with water and lid got jammed on quick.
Heres hoping for a mixed bunch of babies. Fingers Crossed everyone

Honestly if I had for sure homes for future ducklings without anyone turning back I would give it another go at incubating, I just LOVED it, it was stressful but now I've lived and learned but I'm just afraid of doing it again and not having any homes for them to go to, and I would be afraid of them going to a wrong home and them being Left Over Easter Ducks or abused, neglected. I don't know, also the thought of something culling them, my babies that I hatched and raised I have a hard time with. That is just me, but when it's someone elses duck they raise specifically for meat doesn't bother me as much because they aren't mine. Maybe one day I can accept that fact, baby steps just like I never thought I could eat duck eggs. Now we are!
