Hi byc,

I have a gorgeous wee buff whom I've been too scared to prematurely name.

She was sold as a pulley but I'm not too sure. No crowing or roostery behaviour (yet?) But really want to put the mind at ease;

Bonus points to whoever can guess the breed of the brown and gold beauty :)View attachment 1175534 View attachment 1175535

I'm not so sure it's a pullet, the comb & wattles are awfully RED but I don't see saddle nor hackle feathering. You may need to wait another couple weeks but others maybe of more help. It could be an Orpington mix, Orpintons mature late & have single combs. Yours almost looks like a pea comb.....

Yikes! Doesn't fill me with confidence! I know its sort of early days, but yeah the comb and stocky legs made me a bit skeptical.. and not a purebred as sold! Still a gorgeous bird, and would hate to re-home but can't have roosters in my neighbourhood.

Does anyone have any pictures to compare against?

@oldhenlikesdogs ?
LOL I'm not good at gender and breeds. The comb and wattles are red and large, but...I lean toward pullet. Comb is not straight, it does look like a pea comb as mentioned by @ChickNanny13

I tentatively say: pretty backyard mix Orpington pullet:D

BTW-
@RobertNZ we're glad your here and :welcome

Hi, welcome to BYC!

How old is your bird?

That combs is nice and red but most my girls red up around 15 weeks or so. I'm not seeing any saddle feathers. Comparisons are almost irrelevant since it is a mix breed.

Oh WAIT, I see you say 9 weeks...

That's a cockerel. :(
