I have 2 9-week-old Erminettes (the breed, not just the color) that I'm not sure on the sex. I've never had these guys before, and the breeder just got them as well and isn't sure about sexing. She had a medical issue and sent her chicks that are the same age as mine away to a friend's farm to grow out so I don't have pictures of her other birds to compare mine to.

One of my chicks has pink legs, the other has yellow. The pink legged one also has ruffly feathers, maybe feather shredder? I'm not sure what is going on with her. Both birds have some pink in the comb/wattles, but not super red or big. They are big birds for 9 weeks. Supposed to have the Plymouth rock body type. The black pullet in most of the pictures with them is a svarthona, and she's the same age, but much smaller breed. She's obviously female. She had 2 brothers and they had big combs by 6 weeks.

I'm used to my cockerels being obvious from the comb/wattle development by 6 or 7 weeks, so these erminettes are confusing me. No pointy saddle or hackle feathers yet. What do you guys think? Pullets? Cockerels? One of each?

I'm pretty sure they are both going to be pullets. You actually have 2 varieties of Erminette. The normal Erminette and the Red Erminette. The Red Erminette was likely created by outcrossing to a buff breed, like an Orpington or Plymouth Rock. That is most likely the reason the Red Erminette has pink legs, because of the outcrossing.

Hey There, these are my Erminette Chicks I ordered from Matt Hemmer @ Smokey Buttes Ranch in KS. In this picture the Erminettes are 5 weeks old. You can clearly tell this one up front is defiantly a cockerel, so I would say yours are pullets. =)

Both look like cockerels

I have some too and I think they are both pullets. Mine are like 6 weeks and the comb and wattle development is significantly larger at this time than the others in the same clutch.

I was curious about the pink vs orange legs as well. I was wondering if they had to do with sex but I guess they don't from the breeder.

"They are a recovering breed so there is some variation in the leg/skin color at present time. Ideally, you will want yellow-colored legs for them. Some tips to help sex them are personality. Most of the time males have a tendency to be more bold and females are more reserved. Physical traits to be on the lookout for; The males will most likely have thicker legs than the females. Males will also have a more prominent/ red comb and wattle."

I wasn't sure what was yellow, but I am assuming the orangish color rather than the pink. I only got one mixed white and black from my clutch of the 12 that made it and the rest are white.

Would love to see updated pics! I was thinking of getting chicks from there as well, but I not until we move into a place with a bigger chicken yard. :)
I ended up selling them back to the breeder because she lost her stock and wanted to replace them. The one with red spots was huge! Big as my brahma. They were not super friendly, but they were good egg layers and got along with the other birds. They also constantly got into trouble. They were over the fence, into my garden, tearing up my flowers... Just bad manners lol. The rest of my chickens respect fences, even low fences. They were driving me nuts so I wasn't sad to let them go.
