I'm hoping someone can help me quick. I have 26 Rainbow Rangers from Meyer Hatchery. They are 3 weeks old today. They have all seemed healthy until last night. I noticed last night one of them was walking funny. It would take a couple of steps then sort of fall or lay down. This morning it was laying there clearly struggling. I knew it was dying but I am very squeamish and sensitive. While I loathe seeing any animal suffer I could not bring myself to "take care of it". I was planning on taking this chick to my parents' house for my dad to take care of for me, but when I went back out to the coop to get it a couple hours later it had already died. But there was another that acted the same way! It was obviously dying so I put it in a box and took it to town and my sister put it out of its misery. When I got home from work about 3 hours later another was dead, and now there are 5 others that are just laying around barely moving. We gave them some electrolyte infused water and separated them but they aren't looking too good.
I have no idea what is happening or what to do about it. I opened a new bag of feed a couple of days ago. They were eating Nutrena from Big R and their new feed is Du-More from TSC. I also gave them meal worms a couple of times since Sunday. These are the only things that have changed. They were vaccinated for Marek's.
Can someone help me please? I am brand new to chickens. Thank you in advance.

Hmmm, I'm hunting for answers on my 4 week olds from Meyer. Have one who started this behavior yesterday. Still alive but I hope someone lets us know. I had ordered a Mareks vaccine on all of them but now that I'm reading the symptoms and it sounds like Mareks I looked at my order and don't see the vaccines on there. I'm wondering if my order had a problem. I know it had had a problem with shipping charges that didnt' get added until later. Ugh. worrried.

Unfortunately the hatchery is closed until morning. Gah, I wish I knew what to do! I have 6 layer and 18 other Rainbow Rangers to worry about, I don't want my whole flock to be decimated! The Marek's vaccination was on the invoice so they should have been vaccinated. Ugh, I have this!

Do they have grit? If eating anything other than chick feed, they need grit. Have you considered cocci? Medicated feed does not prevent cocci. Symptoms runny poop(does not always have blood)fluffed feather, lethargic, etc. If you decide to treat for cocci, purchase Corid(amprol) Dosage for corid powder is 1/2 tsp per gallon of water, dosage for corid liquid is - 2 tsp per gallon of water, treat all chicks. Treat chicks for 5 days,do not give vitamins during treatment(interferes with medication),give vitamins after treatment.

Awe I wish I knew what to do :( this is my first year with a sick bird and I thought maybe it was marecks but she doesn't seem to be getting worse. Unfortunatly the disease can effect them right away or just dwindle along. Do you have any vitamin packs or antibiotics? Do you think maybe the food could be tainted? do you have any of the other food they were eating before left? Sorry so many questions! Hopefully someone else can help you guys faster than my suggestions.

Oh ten chicks....I didn't know vitamins would interfere with the antibiotics! That's good to know since I have a 11 week old on meds and I have been giving vits as well. No wonder she's not improving! Thank you!

They are eating unmedicated chick starter. I was just out in the coop and one that seemed ok just sort of flipped out, flapping the wings and running around clucking. Then it pooped and it was kind of stringy and mucousy looking. One of the bad ones had its eye open and it looked sort of like the eye on the Wikipedia page for Marek's but we can't really tell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marek's_disease
Gosh I just don't know what to do. Can we treat for cocci if that's not what it is? Can it harm them to be treated if they don't have it?

I would treat them, will not hurt them, but if it is cocci(and they are not treated)will probably die. If this isn't the problem, then you have to start looking at something else. But,at least it is a place to start. I have no experience with Marek's,but there is quite a few people on forum that do.
