911 help please!

I know, I'm a newbie too. My sister has chickens but she's never had a problem with hers, other than predators. I feel horrible for these poor birds. I hate seeing anything sick and not knowing what I can do for them. At least it seems like the Corid might be working. I will check out your thread.

It's got to be cocci. They are too young to have mareks symptoms. Mareks symptoms take about six weeks to manifest.

Make sure there are no vitamins in the water while medicating for cocci. Also you should make sure they have a heat source until they are well. They tend to get chilled when they have cocci.

Also switch to medicated starter.

Thanks for the info. Can I do any supplements instead of medicated feed? Neither of the farm stores in my town sell it, both just sell non-medicated starter.
They don't have any other vitamins and I have them under the heat lamp still.
Just checked on them and 3 of the 4 made it over to their feed and were really chowing down so that seems like a good sign. They don't seem to have too much control over their bodies, they seem very unsteady. The other is still living but really looking like it's fighting to stay alive. They seem better when we first go into the coop so I'm wondering if we stress them out.
The healthy ones all seem a lot more active today. Running and jumping around. There were a few I was worried about yesterday that we didn't separate but they are all active today so that's good.
I hate this waiting game.

No other symptoms,runny poop,fluffed feathers,lethargic? If you feel there is something wrong,then there probably is,go with your instincts. If she is not eating or drinking,them something is wrong,check for impacted crop,look up info for cocci.

Hmmm, I'm wondering if she might have an impacted crop. Sorry OP if I'm highjacking your thread...She pecks at food and water, doesn't seem to really eat or drink. We forced nutridrench down her and when I set her down she went into a fit shaking her head and flopping on her back. Her chest looks big and puffy but can't feel anything (not that I would know!) She seems extra sleepy but doesn't lay down, sleeps on her feet. I'll read up on Cocci but her poo looks normal though I'm not sure she's doing much of it.

Well, another dead chick today, but not one we had separated last night. This one was in the healthy side of the brooder! My husband checked on them around 5 and all was ok, when we checked on them again around 6:15 one was on its back stiff as a board. Sigh...
Two of the four we had separated are doing really well, up and walking around and eating/drinking on their own. Another was standing when I was in just a little bit ago and the last one seems so weak but it's still hanging in there. I dip its beak and it'll drink a little then will sort of fight me. When I put it down it will spread its wings and face plant into the floor. I don't know if there's any hope of this one making it but I guess all I can do is wait.
Tomorrow is supposed to be warm and sunny so I thought I would move them outside into their run (the healthy ones at least) so I can do a thorough cleaning of the brooder. I am nervous to do this though because it seems like every time we go into the coop they go bezerk. They will be just chilling and we go in and even though we are quiet and move slowly they go crazy and start jumping around and fighting with each other. I hate to stress them out more but I want to do sand and I would think doing this with them in the coop would freak them out more than transporting them a few feet.
Any advice?

I'm sorry you lost another one, what a dragging out stressful process this must be! I would take the healthy ones out. I think it does them a lot of good. Ours are nervous nellies too. But I think it will do them well to be outside and it's a good idea to super clean the brooder.

Awe it sounds like you are having a really tough time. So sorry for all your losses. Did you have a chance to call the hatchery today? I would let them know as it seems their name is popping up frequently on a lot of different threads and with the same type of issues.

Ten Chicks, I believe you solved our mystery. We researched sour/impacted crop and she has a very enlarged, squishy crop so we're going to try and treat for that.

looks like a nasty job but hopefully we will be successful.

I called the hatchery yesterday. They said it sounded like cocci and gave me the phone number to a Dr. Brown that does phone consultations.
My chicks are looking much better today. One is still weak but looks much better than it did yesterday. We are going to move them outside and put sand in the brooder.
