96 Eggs Set This Morning- Incubation Thread *WE'RE ON DAY 21*

Candeled tonight and still have 43 out of the 62 I started with. Lost 7, maybe 8 of the only shipped eggs I have. They are Australorps, and I started with 15. Have 14 of the 16 Ameracaunas still going, 2 of 5 Cuckoo Marans, 4 of the 6 Polish, 12 of the 15 BBS Rocks, and 4 of 6 barred rocks. !/2 were quitters, and aboout 1/2 were not fertile. Not bad, as long as most of the ones left are pullets!! .......stan

You wanted to candel last week!! I admire your fortitude in holding off !!

I candled tonight on Day 10 for my 5/1 hatch. I went from 35 Lav/Split Ameraucana eggs down to 22. And all of my 9 Lav/Split Orps and 4 Crele OEGB's were developing!!!

Candled... it's day 14.... Well I set 96 eggs and have 40 left. That's okay. I just need more experience with my hovabators, I guess. I know what I did wrong. i found one eggs covered in yolk... Gross... So moved all eggs into one incubator where that wasn't, and am cleaning that one.

I...

-handled too much on day #1
-let the eggs sit for too long
-set eggs right when I got back from the beach... I was still in vacation mode, I guess.
-Added too much water
-Didn't know how well my new hygrometers worked

I take blame. Oh well. Now that I know my mistakes, I expect my next hatch to be better!

This hatch hasn't been so "in my face" as the first since I used an auto turner. last hatch I hand turned so I saw and talked to the babies 3x per day.

My temps have been so great and steady.. hoping for a good hatch. One last candle today I think before lockdown tomorrow. Right now, I have 21 (I think) and 4 under my friends hen

Let's hope they all hatch ok. I had a lot of "loose" or misshapen air cells from shipping...

Anyway hatching Lav or Splash Ameraucanas in Florida and want to trade a few BLRW or Lt Brahmas??

WELL.. I just candled and decided to go ahead and lock down about 16 hours early. I have several that have larger than normal air-cells which I know can indicate too low of humidity. I have had lower humidity this hatch as I tried to do a "dry" hatch but some of these aren't looking like they liked that. Couple that with the fact that my chicks started hatching 2 days early last time and I just figure that 16 extra hours are in the best possible interest of the babies.

I'll keep you posted!
