A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

Got a smoker for Christmas! Next, a suit or jacket -- I want an Ultrabreeze because working outside in the afternoons here can be an invitation to heatstroke while wearing a T shirt and shorts -- and a few other things. But I might put it off a year...just learned I'm very unexpectedly pregnant (it looked like we were done after 4 miscarriages in a row and some weird issues cropping up...I am older, after all...) and maybe working bees while super huge or hurrying to get back to feed the baby isn't a terrific idea.

But somehow, I can't stop looking at packages, nucs and queens, lol.

Congrats on the baby and the smoker!

My first set of bees I smoked, but this set of bees (from a different source) are so calm and mellow, I have not needed to use my smoker on them. Don't bother getting the bee gloves, I've found them to be useless - I can't feel anything through them. I just use a pair of rubber dish gloves, I can still feel what I'm grasping. Certainly don't want to drop a frame of bees!

That was wonderfully informative!!! Thank you for posting it! I also want to thank everyone who contributes to this thread with information, questions, answers and just talk of what they are doing and what they are changing, etc. It has made this a great thread for those who want to learn and I appreciate all the students and teachers who contribute here!

Great video! I have a top bar hive I made last spring and hope to draw a queen. I'm feeding bees now. They are here every warm day so far and the feeder is on top of that hive. Wish me luck! They are very docile, I've dumped them out of a jar I mistakenly left out there and no stings.

What are you feeding the bees?

Hi all! New to bees, joined our local club last summer, and I'm starting bee school this week! Really excited to get started beekeeping this spring.
