A Bielefelder Thread !

I just wanted to share a couple pics of my Bielies! The poor Rooster has a bit of frostbite from our latest stretch of -20 degree weather!

I am also looking to track down some of the fabled "second line" from GFF if anyone knows where to get some. I'd prefer chicks but would do eggs!

Check with these people: http://omegahillsfarm.com/product-category/bielefelder/

I think they sell from the second strain from Greenfire Farms.

I have the 2013 import. I have a little bit of a waiting list right now. Here's pics of my breeders. Pam

Oh I adore the hummingbirds! The do get very tame "ish" if you feed them regularly. I start putting the feeders out mid April and continue them until October.

Unfortunately I have to keep 1 to 4 feeders out year 'round because we have resident Hummies (sedentarius Allen's) that don't migrate. If it snows in the lower foothills or if there's a brush fire we suddently get an influx of Allen's and Anna's Hummies. The hot SoCal weather wilts most of the foliage so feeders is all they have for nectar. I increase the winter syrup to a 1:3 ratio instead of the summer 1:4 ratio of sugar water.

I see you German Shepherd. . We absolutely love our's

Fowl pox is a virus carried by wild birds and passed to domestic birds via mosquitoes. There is a wet and a dry version of this disease, luckily mine got the milder dry form.  It's usually worse toward the end of summer when the mosquitoes tend to be worse.  There are many threads here on fowl pox if you want to read up on it.

Bith your roo and our hen had a mild case of fowl pox last year.. I'm out this evening, & I can feel the mosquitoes biting my feet. I think I'm going to try something like extra containers with mosquito fish in them around the property.. they are clear on ever getting fowl pox again. I do believe that our to biel.,are first generation Greenfire farms. I need to find out and get back to you. If you want to know. .

I'm starting to fall in love with this breed, esp since I'm a native to Germany, so I love everything that has to do with my home country.
we are in Jacksonville, FL and I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to get this beautiful breed into my own back yard.

Thank you so much for your help.
