A Bielefelder Thread !

The floor of my chicken cabin is all plywood, so I coated it with the 10x textured Rustoleum deck coating tinting the color of dirt.

That stuff works great! It's highly durable and so far appears to be chicken proof, and since it's textured it's completely non-slip. I threw about 6 inches of pine chips atop the flooring and set them loose to scratch and peck. After looking at what you guys have done I'm thinking of trying sand in my broody hen area. Granted, I don't have a broody hen yet, but I like to remain optimistic.
I have the same in all my coops, shaving chips on a plywood floor, no wet ever.

Hey Salmonfood,

I am new to this forum although have been reading it for months. Don't know if you ever got your Bielefelder hens or even if you're still interested but I have decided to reduce my flock due to my health issues. My girls (2 hatches) were born end of November 2014 and end of December 2014. They haven't started laying yet but should be soon. I would have to sell with a rooster as I have 3 Bielefelder roosters and am only keeping 1. Would sell a trio. Actually want to sell 2 trios and maybe extra hen, i.e., quad.
Am not doing Rare Breed as I don't do Paypal and I refuse to do Craigslist as it's just too risky.
You can email me at [email protected] if you are interested. Obviously it would be pick up only; we're SW of Atlanta 45 minutes from Newnan.

I am just curious why sale on Ebay is risky. I purchased my hen and a rooster there. The shipping cost would be very high for live stock.

Wasn't trying to be rude with my above post. By Rare Breed I meant RBA so no paypal and there's been too many circumstances with Craigslist (stories I've read and heard) that I just don't feel comfortable selling on there.

Had addressed my post to Salmon since he/she is in Georgia where I am at. Anyone interested would have to be close enough to pick up. You're right, shipping would be ridiculously high and I wouldn't ship my birds in this hot weather anyway. It would be much too stressful on them.

Wish I was planning a trip down your way.

Bielefelder roosters on top photo. Also have Legbar rooster and Rhodebar rooster (same age as Bielefelders) for free.
Very hot in Georgia so girls enjoy the fan!

Thanks to Larry Duncan at Able Acres, we just got our first set of Bielefelder chicks. They are really nice, big, stout chicks that we feel blessed to be able to add to our breeding program here at Poultry 2XL. We have been watching this breed for the last couple of years and finally decided to add them. Now, we can't wait for them to grow up. We believe that this is going to be a great breed to work with.

Always Blessed,
