A Bielefelder Thread !

Thanks to Larry Duncan at Able Acres, we just got our first set of Bielefelder chicks. They are really nice, big, stout chicks that we feel blessed to be able to add to our breeding program here at Poultry 2XL. We have been watching this breed for the last couple of years and finally decided to add them. Now, we can't wait for them to grow up. We believe that this is going to be a great breed to work with.

Always Blessed,

Congratulations! Mine are closing in on 12 weeks old and continue to impress me with their amazingly friendly dispositions, hardiness, and size. Mine obviously haven't reached POL yet, but my boys started crowing weeks ago. (They sound like kazoos! LOL!) I hope you enjoy the breed as much as I do.

Hi, I was posting on the other thread, I have some 3 mo old Biele's and I also love their disposition. They are growing quickly and I was hoping they might start laying at 5-6 mo. Has anyone had any that did this, or is it usually at 8 months? Also, they are so docile that my daughters would like to show them at the fair, but no SOP. Anyone have ideas on where there is something written on confirmation in Biele's? I guess the judges will use a written description of what the bird is supposed to be/look like.

Mine were not very old when they started laying might have been 6-7 months but not 8 for mine.

From what I've read elsewhere there is no American SOP for this breed. There's a limited amount of information to go on, unfortunately, but someone else on this thread had previously posted this page to use for reference: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGA/Biele/BRKBiele.html

That link doesn't seem totally credible as Greenfire states that "cuckoo Malines (also imported by Greenfire Farms), Amrock, Wyandotte, and the New Hampshire." were used to create them and legbar is a breed not a color! But as most of us don't know German who can say.

I am thinking that because of the reference used, when mostly speaking of breeds of this color, Legbar is being thought of as a color as well…I had previously thought that the coloration was Crele.

I don't agree or disagree. I'm merely re-posting in the hopes that at least the photos will help provide something to work towards. I've yet to find anything that clearly defines a standard for this breed.
