After doing a bit of research, I decided that Bielefelders would be my new experimental breed. I had Rhodebars, but I wasn't impressed with them the first round and I had color issues with them. I did want an auto-sexing breed and I love the crele pattern. The color, auto-sexing, temperament and the size of them and their eggs won me over. I set my first 13 hatching eggs last night. I was not expecting the eggs to be as big as they are! I have mottled Orps in the incubator, too, and their eggs are small in comparison! I am hoping to get another 2 doz eggs within the week, so I have flock diversity. I also plan on using the Biels for a Cornish X experiment, but I am not sure if that will be this year or next.
