Congratulations!

Yes, we all understand how exciting those 1st eggs can be! I still take pics of the new layers' eggs & record my daily eggs with tallies next to each hen's name.
I even blow out some nicer eggs to use as xmas ornaments. Non chicken people just don't understand.LOL
What is better is that they have their own spot to hang for the year. They are very nice looking.

Those ornaments look great! I have blown out an egg before and it is no fun but kids enjoy it, especially boys because of the "slime" factor..
Maybe I will make my 6 year old do this for Christmas gifts!

I am curious to see if the Silkie and bielefelder crosses would go broody? They need a name. Bielkies!

Bielkies is an adorable name, good job coming up with it! DesertChic's chicks are so beautiful, if they grew up and made great broodies I would want to buy one, though I did some looking around and someone sells silkies kinda near me. Its an 2 hour drive, but at least i get get an already grown hen, so i will probably buy from them, they said they be around next year.
There are an abundance of silkie roosters on Craigslist, I didn't notice before but, the way the man sells them is you buy one rooster for $20 and get 2 hens. Which is a great deal but....i cant have another rooster, Maybe next year his policy will be changed.

Those are impressive!

I track eggs laid by each of my girls too, but all of my shells get fed back to my birds or mixed into my compost bin.

First Bielefelder eggs were laid a couple of days ago, at a little over 7 months of age. In two days, we got 5.5 eggs from 6 pullets. Even the cock's egg had a mini yolk inside it! That was a first. I heard a girl singing the egg song at dusk a week ago, so knew it was coming soon. Thank you, girls. My molting hens are not laying hardly at all.

I got an egg yesterday that may be my first Biel egg. I thought I had gotten one about two months ago and turns out it's from a white mystery pullet I was given. I was getting eggs consistently, 8-9 a week between the 1hen and 3 pullets but then EVERYTHING stopped and it's been a month up till yesterday. FINGERS CROSSED!!!
