A Bielefelder Thread !

My last incubator hatch is now 4 weeks old and there's now absolutely no doubt that my Biel/Aussie mix is, once again, a cockerel. And like the other Biel/Aussie mixes I've had, though a beautiful bird, he's very lean and not as friendly as most of my other birds. Maybe it's because most of my Australorp girls are also of a more nervous temperament?

Grimm - 4 weeks old and 11.53 ounces:

Meanwhile, my other Biel/NN pullet is extremely friendly and sweet and perfectly content to perch on my shoulder and chatter away. She was a bit resistant to being photographed though. I guess she worked through her "poser" stage.

I love her blue eye! I know it won't last, but I still love it for now.

I was at the breeders meeting today, and they told me that this trait comes from the Malines heritage of the Bielefelder. Coucou de Malines were used in the creation of the Bielefelder for better meat and barred feathers... so your chick may have it's greatgrandmom's legs.

Thank you so much for clearing this up for me!

Tomorrow they are 5 weeks. Have 6 in my lap out of nine. Was gone all day yesterday, last night and most of today. So had to visit after I topped off their water and feed. Silly things didn't want off my lap.

Just a quick intro for me!

We bought 16 Bielefelder chicks two weeks ago now, 12 females and 4 males. Ours came from Grade Eh Farms in BC (I live in Canada).

Lots of great info on this thread, looking forward to reading along. I'll have to take some pics and share them tonight!
