A Bielefelder Thread !

I have read a good bit of this thread and skipped to the last ten pages or so. I trying to learn more about this breed as I had decided this would be my main focus breed ( not necessarily to show but I wouldn't totally discount it). I have a starter flock coming to me around the first week of April. Now I am concerned after reading the last few pages. Can anyone recommend the best place to get Bielefelders?

I got mine from Papa's Poultry in Redding, CA. My pullet has good type and red earlobes. :)

Let me see if I can attach my photos (NOT a very computer savvy person!). I've been working with Biels for the past three years with three different bloodlines that go back to at least 2013. I have hatched tons of them and never had a white earlobe (one pinkish, the rest red). But the little button of feathers above the earlobe can be pale. But the hanging earlobe itself is red. Could it be that others are seeing that little pale button and assuming that is the earlobe or am I the one that's not looking at this properly? Thanks!

Thank you both...nice pics. This is what has me concerned...pics of Bielefelders where my chicks are coming from....at least one rooster has a more "v" body shape and 2-3 white sickle feathers. Several hens look to me to have white earlobes. One of the things that drew me to this breed was the body type and the few pics I am seeing of her flock...the body type seems off. :( I am not sure what to do....cancel the order and look for better chicks or get them and hope hard.

I am not totally understanding the earlobe thing either except in some pics you can clearly see the white on the chickens. That crazy "v" shape body on some pics has me most concerned. Even as a newbie I just didn't visualize Bielefelders having that body type after researching and looking at pics.

I am on the east coast so Papa's is probably not doable for me. :(

I'm in Hillsborough, NC, and you are more than welcome to come look at the "crew"! PM me for more info!

I should know where Hillsborough is...but would have to get a map. I am in southern WV. Originally from SW VA. :)

I see more of the body type I expected in your chickens. No deep "v" in the back like hers. Pretty chickens! :)

I have been following this thread for a few weeks and I have noticed all the pics of roosters have a white ear is this OK in the SOP all of my breeding stock hens have red ears. I also have two hens with white ears I keep them in a separate pen of egg layers they also lay cream eggs. These two hens came from Florida bought on the Rare Breed Auction supposedly from Greenfire farms stock. I have 14 2 1/2 week old chicks I hatched looking forward to seeing how they turn out
Have a nice morning

No, a white earlobe is a disqualification if you are into showing or breeding to the German standard. Here's a photo of my boy - not perfect but nice. Notice the red earlobes but the little feathered buttons above the lobes are not red. Anyone know if that is okay?

I am getting a male and female Bielfelder soon! I cannot wait! And the person is giving them to me for free! I am so grateful
